50 Best Bars are Judged

How the 50 Best Bars are Judged
The World's 50 Best Awards, an annual compilation of the top bars worldwide, is determined through the collective expertise of 650 drinks experts, including renowned bartenders, consultants, drinks writers, and cocktail specialists from around the globe. The judging panel is composed of a 50/50 gender split, ensuring diversity and equal representation. Similar to the 50 Best Restaurants list, the ranking process for the bars does not rely on a predetermined checklist of criteria but takes various factors into account.

To ensure impartiality, the World's 50 Best Bars list and awards are organized and compiled by Deloitte. None of the employees of the organizing entity or any of the sponsors associated with the awards are allowed to participate in the voting process. The academy members, consisting of drinks writers, critics, mixologists, restaurateurs, and food enthusiasts, each have ten votes to distribute. The voting is completely confidential, and the identities of the voters remain anonymous throughout the process.

In 2022, the World's 50 Best Bars showcased a truly international selection, with bars from 26 different cities across the globe making the list. Notably, 14 new entries joined the rankings, including establishments in Athens, Bangkok, Chicago, Dubai, and Lisbon. However, it was Barcelona that stole the spotlight. The vibrant Spanish city, renowned for its lively nightlife and party culture, claimed the top honors in this year's rankings. Paradiso, located in Barcelona, was named both the Best Bar in Europe and the World's Best Bar, sponsored by Perrier. This achievement marked the first time a bar outside the traditional cocktail capitals of New York and London secured the top spot, underscoring the global growth and influence of the industry.

Mark Sansom, the content director of The World's 50 Best Bars, expressed his congratulations to all the bars on the list, emphasizing the remarkable diversity of the global bar scene. He noted the increasing demand for high-quality cocktail bars and the joy of introducing 14 new entries to meet this demand and inspire travel plans.

In terms of specific cities, London reaffirmed its status as the cocktail capital of the UK, with five bars making it to the top 50. Tayēr + Elementary, which finished second in 2021, maintained its position as a standout venue. The Connaught Bar secured the eighth spot, while Swift ranked at number 30. Unsurprisingly, New York dominated the American bar scene, solidifying its reputation as one of the world's premier destinations for top-quality drinks and nightlife. The city claimed six bars on the list, the highest number for any city worldwide, including two in the top 10. Double Chicken Please, which also received the Disaronno Highest New Entry Award, ranked sixth, and Katana Kitten rose to the ninth position.

Four bars from Australia made it onto the list, with Sydney's Maybe Sammy taking the title of Australia's best bar for the second consecutive year. The cocktail bar, owned by Martin Hudak, Sarah Proietti, and Paolo Maffietti, continues to impress patrons with its innovative offerings. Two other Sydney establishments, Cantina OK! and Re, also earned spots on the list, highlighting Sydney's prominence as a cocktail destination. Melbourne's Caret
